About this episode
Schellie-Jayne Price (SJ) is the AI partner at Stirling & Rose, a law firm and emerging technology policy institute. As an award-winning technology lawyer, SJ has built machine learning (AI) models and supported organisations in their AI implementation, compliance and governance. She sits on the Law Council of Australia’s Digital Commerce & Financial Services Committee, and the Advisory Boards of the WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH) and the Centre for Legal Innovation of the College of Law and judges international AI innovation competitions, most recently the Australian leg of the United Nations “AI for Good” competition awarded in Geneva. SJ lectures at Murdoch University on technology and the future of law and is a thought-leader on the nature of legal and governance frameworks required for the AI infused future.
Lee de Byl has two decades of experience in advanced analytics, machine learning, and optimisation, working with organisations including Chevron and Telstra, as well as in the media sector. He holds a Master of Data Science and a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Western Australia and also undertook studies in Electronic Systems Engineering at Edith Cowan University. Lee has led cross-disciplinary teams delivering high-impact AI and data products in regulated, high-stakes environments, generating hundreds of millions of dollars in business value through cost avoidance, asset optimisation, and risk mitigation. His work has spanned facility operations, legal, finance, and health and safety functions, and includes machine learning and deep learning applications such as computer vision, large-scale simulation for capital investment deferral, and AI-enabled engineering automation.
